Né à Chicago en 1952 de parents juifs d’origine ukrainienne et lituanienne, David Homel s’est établi à Montréal il y a près de 30 ans, après avoir fait des études littéraires aux États-Unis, en France et au Canada. Comme journaliste, il collabore régulièrement aux quotidiens La Presse, The Gazette, et The Globe and Mail,. Traducteur émérite des écrivains Louis Caron, Robert Lalonde, Chrystine Brouillet et Martine Desjardins, il a remporté en 1995 le Prix du Gouverneur général pour sa traduction de Comment faire l’amour avec un nègre sans se fatiguer, de Dany Laferrière. Établi comme un auteur des plus brillants et originaux de sa génération, autant au Québec et au Canada qu’en France, il a connu un accueil critique extrêmement favorable pour son dernier roman, L’analyste,, dont la version originale anglaise, The speaking cure, a remporté le prix Hugh MacLennan.
David Homel is a writer, journalist, filmmaker and translator. He is the author of five previous novels, including The Speaking Cure, which won the J.I. Segal Award of the Jewish Public Library and the Hugh MacLennan Prize for Fiction from the Quebec Writers’ Federation. He has translated several French works, twice receiving the Governor General’s Award for Translation. Homel was born and raised in Chicago and resides in Montreal. His new novel is The Fledglings.
